April 1999:

Water conditions are now under control and the snails have started to reduce the level of hair algae on the rocks and tank sides. I made my first real livestock purchases for the tank - a few fish, some Cleaner Shrimps, a Candy Shrimp and some small corals. I realise that it is really a bit too early to be introducing corals - especially varieties such as the Orange Christmas Tree Coral but they seem to be OK in the tank.

After a couple of weeks, the Orange Christmas Tree Coral has stopped opening and shrunk into small balls. I will try locating it out of bright light.

All of the fish are healthy and feeding well. The Yellow Gramma/Basslet (not really sure what it is) is the most shy member of the tank - usually only visible early in the morning and late evening.

I also purchased a Long Nosed Hawk Fish and learned a lesson - they can jump out of the water and out of the tank if the lid is not well fitted. Hence my first casualty was the hawk fish which I found dead on the carpet one morning.
